The original stone interior pool finish was developed in Australia nearly thirty years ago and today nearly all pools in that country are built utilizing a pebble-type interior. The idea of stone pool interiors arose from studies of exposed aggregate used on pool decks throughout Australia. The majority of these decks, many of them in place for over twenty years, remained in “mint” condition. It was decided to adapt the positive aspects of this technology into a new, stronger, longer lasting and more beautiful surface for the interior of pools. Naturally tumbled pebbles and a specifically formulated cement are combined with water and additives, then pneumatically applied to the interior of the pool. Using a unique method, the mix is then hand troweled and “exposed” with precise timing to reveal the top layer of pebbles. After the finish has thoroughly hardened, it is cleaned with a solution to enhance the brightness and luster of the natural pebbles.
