Two little girls in swimming pool with mother, teaching children to swim

The Importance of Teaching Children to Swim

While you might have been swimming with family or a few friends in your backyard pool on June 18th, 2015, there were thousands of children across the globe learning the vital skill of swimming. The event was organized as the World’s Largest Swim Lesson and more than 37,750 participants at 478 locations joined in. This participation set a new world record for the largest swim lesson conducted.

Do your children know how to swim? At Aqua Blue, we know that teaching children to swim can mean a lifetime of healthy exercise and lots of fun, but also prove to be life saving. For children ages 1-14, preventing drowning is a serious concern – since drowning is the second leading cause of unintended death in this age bracket.

To keep your children safe and your pool paradise a place for fun, always make sure there is adequate adult supervision. Teach your children to swim at an age-appropriate pace, always making safety a priority while instilling confidence in and around the water. Set rules and guidelines that keep everyone safe, such as: ‘No running around the pool deck’ and ‘No dunking your little brother. ‘ Also consider enrolling your children in swim lessons. They’re a great way to receive structured instruction and learn fun games to reinforce vital swimming skills.

The World’s Largest Swim Lesson may be over, but it’s never too late to improve your swim technique or that of your children! With a little forethought, good supervision, and an Aqua Blue pool, your family can enjoy many fun days in your very own backyard paradise.
